Ruda, in Mexica folklore and many cultures cross-culturally, has been known to ward off the "evil eye" as well as any harmful or offensive energies, sprits, and deities. They have long been revered and honored as a firm hand when it comes to boundary work.

We dore Ruda for their powers of warding and safeguarding. They have been used for years to protect households from sickness or harmful spirits from entering. People bathe with them for limpias, burn their leaves or seeds, drink their powerful pain-relieving tea, and honor their banishing abilities.

My friend was recently telling me on NYE that in her Iranian culture rue seeds, or esfand, would be harvested and burned to ward evil away or to break curses especially on celebratory days such as New Year's Eve!

In my Mexica cultute we would bathe with their leaves and drink their tea to heal from wounds, UTIs, and to reflect on the ROOT 🫚 of the ailment (which is always more spiritual before it becomes physical)

They have a strong yet gentle voice. A fire led plant whose magik and medicine were the foundation for the phrase, "You'll rue the day..." since in Roman times (arguably still living them just modernized slightly) you'd throw fresh rue and ash at your foe to curse or ward them off.

In fact, in many cultures this plant is seen as a "cure-all". They can relieve pain caused by inflammation immediately, relieve gas, be used in exorcism rites, as well as funerary and birth rites. There are many spiritual ceremonies used with ruda.

One in particular that I remember learning about is about those whose skin was discoloring. This person would partake in this ruda ceremony where they'd drink rue tea that was laid out in a cross, collect their urine for a set of three days, and dump the urine out into their gardens (yes, it is a great fertilizer as well) This would have removed whatever ailed them.

This plant combined with creosote and nopal leaf make for an excellent tea to help combat diabetes and cancer. It is a reina amongst plants and should be treated with such respect.

They contain sorlin which is a photo sensitive phytochemical which means for some it can cause phytophoto dermatitis if the user touches this plant fresh. They do not affect me in this way, but for this reason I'm intending this mist for space only. Use on your body with discretion and at your comfort. Speak with them, and they will help to guide if you can use them on your body or not.

This bottle contains the powerful hydrosols of fresh ruda, fresh lavender, and fresh clary sage. So think boundaries, clarity, agni, voice, and empathy.

Your space, spaces you enter and exit, spaces you share with others; these all require cleansings, prayers and respect.

This space mist will bring you much prosperity and aegis in 2024. As we enter the year of the dragon we are reminded of how our spaces can be extensions of our bodies. A cluttered stagnant space will make it hard to move or shed or breathe. A clear space allows for growth, flexibility, and new perspective.

DIRECTIONS: Mist this above windows and doors (especially entrances!!), wherever your head lay before bed, and spritz above the tub before you take a bath. I mist my temples, feet and wrists personally, but do so at your own will and discretion.
